Los Angeles – May 10, 2002 – At this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Aesthetic Science is previewing Hollywood Exotica, the first chapter in a new genre of gaming that combines live events, CD-ROM games, board games, and trading cards to create an ongoing lifestyle experience where every player can participate. Hollywood Exotica is the first journey in the “Exotica” world, the first product in the SuperStar Avatar series of games. SuperStar Avatar introduces the first personalized gaming system, where players are not a polygon head; they can create an underdog superhero persona using aspects of their own personality, skills, talents, and wits to affect the gameplay. In SuperStar Avatar, avatars are the personas of real people, not 3D characters. Taking its cue from Reality TV, rave culture, retro lifestyles, and specialty events such as Burning Man, Renaissance Pleasure Faire, and Civil War reenactments, Aesthetic Science is creating a portal where different communities, subcultures, and gamers alike can come together to play and have a good time.
“We feel that to create a rich experience we need to permeate all lifestyles,” said Chenoa Smith, Aesthetic Science’s Founder and President. “And the computer is not the only lifestyle out there. There are many people who aren’t on computers. And there are many people who don’t understand console games.” In addition to multiple agen slot online platforms, SuperStar Avatar merges different styles of gameplay, ranging from classic board games to adventure to sims to role-playing, creating a structure broad enough to work across any type of game or medium.
“There are amazing possibilities when it doesn’t have to be one format,” Smith said. “It’s not hard or expensive to do. It just takes a little thought to give people an opportunity to contribute to their entertainment experience. We’re taking game development one step further by actually putting the players in the content of the game.”
“People are going to be very curious because it expands on the notion of what a game can be,” said Scott Levkoff, Senior Vice President, Creative Development. Hollywood Exotica is an invitation for players to bring to life their own interpretation of the kitschy world of pulp fiction, B movies, fetish, noir classics, tiki culture, and the cult of celebrity.
After creating an Avatar within one of 12 character classes, each player will utilize trading cards to initiate gameplay, somewhat similar to games like Magic: The Gathering. Hollywood Exotica has personalized that experience even further by giving the user an opportunity to play out each card in a consensual way that is meaningful to them, according to their own persona.
One could, for example, use the “Milton Berle Voodoo Doll” card to place a curse, “The Jimmy Stewart Moment” to win friends and enemies, “A Really Big Fish Story” to impress a business colleague, or “Cottontail Flash”, as in cotton panties, to flirt with the opposite sex. The story line is scripted to create a comfortable structure, where anything a player does can be turned into something fun and cool. The demo event will showcase an example of the game environment including theme rooms, dj music, live Exotica performances, character actors or “guides”, and special player challenges like a fashion show and dance-off.
The SuperStar Avatar product line will be developed to include CD-ROM games, game kiosks, console games, card and board games, TV shows, online clubs, toys, music, and novelty items, giving players multiple platforms in which to experience each game world.
A demo will be held Friday night, May 24, at an off-site E3 party. The Deevle’s Dark Dark Bus is scheduled to shuttle conference attendees directly from the convention center.
